The Black and Red flag was adopted by JACQUES I (Jean-Jacques Dessalines), first Emperor of Haiti, throughout the Imperial constitution of 1805.
This version of the flag features the coat of arms of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines in the centre: a crowned coat of arms adorned with two lions supporting a rooster, surmounted by a white ribbon bearing the inscription "Liberty or Death".
